Our mission to provide a positive impact on our communities extends beyond a professional level. Each year we strive to support, invest and grow the communities we live and work in. As we reflect on 2023, we celebrate both the personal and professional accomplishments and achievements, and everything good in between – like our volunteering efforts! We are proud of the dedication and time our professionals have given to causes they care about (check out who we helped in 2022).

Here are some of the organizations we volunteered with this year and donated time to. In total, we provided 126 hours to a cause, not including the efforts off the clock. Check out our Charitable Giving page to learn more about our Volunteer Time Off Program.

STEM Camp at MCC

This summer, three of our engineers workshopped with middle school students for Manchester Community College’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Summer Camp. The camp helps students learn about and experience 21st-century skills in STEM. Through hands-on learning, our engineers worked with the students to understand civil engineering as a career. That included the day-to-day as well as the big picture of our impact on the natural and built environment.

Bridges to Prosperity (B2P)

Senior Structural Engineer Kayla Hampe traveled to Rwanda for the second year in a row to connect rural Rwandan communities with a suspension bridge. B2P is a non-profit organization that envisions a world where poverty caused by rural isolation no longer exists; they build pedestrian bridges to provide year-round access to healthcare, education, markets, and jobs for thousands of people, resulting in improved lives for generations to come. (Check out Kayla’s journey in 2022.)

Darbster Doggy

Animals are part of our community, too! This year, members of our team helped out at the shelter and spent time with the dogs there. They fed the animals and took them outside for walks and play time. Volunteering at the shelter helps the animals receive the level of care and compassion that they deserve. Darbster’s mission is to ensure that each animal rescued receives the best possible environment while they await their forever homes, and we were happy to help with that endeavor!

NH Food Bank Mac Off

As part of Hunger Awareness Month, our team participated in the annual “Mac Off Competition” at the NH Foodbank. This is a fun event where teams of 10 people from area companies get together and pack macaroni and cheese meals for families in need. In just two hours, the Hoyle Tanner team packed 850 meals!

UMass Lowell Senior Capstone Project Final Presentations

The Senior Capstone project for most engineering students is a chance to experiment and showcase all that they’ve learned in their undergraduate education. It’s a year-long culminating experience where civil and environmental engineering students collaborate on a “real world” design project and present it before graduating. Sometimes, an engineering team will get mentored by current engineers, and some of our professionals are actively involved during this critical time! For the past few years, different members of our team have been helping these students at various campuses. Check out Structural Engineer Katelyn Welch’s recount of her experience helping University of New Hampshire student’s last year.

Ronald McDonald House Charities

Our Florida team prepared and served dinner to the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Orlando. The house is a 23-bedroom house that provides a place for families to stay during their time of crisis, while their child is undergoing medical treatment. The Share a Meal program allows individuals or groups to come in nightly and prepare and serve a meal to the families. Our team prepared enough food for 20-30 people, some of that was served to families in attendance and the rest packed up and sent to those in their rooms. All of the ingredients were provided, prepped, and cooked by our team at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida.
