Project Summary

Hoyle Tanner has provided engineering services for the Elliot Hospital through multiple contracts. Our services began with a full assessment of the garage which consists of four elevated levels with precast concrete double tees supported on concrete beams and columns. Based on our assessment of the garage, we prepared contract documents for rehabilitation work and provided construction phase services over a three-year period to return the garage to a ‘like new’ condition. The repairs were phased over a three-year period to stay within the budgetary constraints of the client. 

Repairs to the garage included joint sealant replacement, partial depth concrete repairs, application of waterproofing coatings to stair treads and select, high-traffic areas of the deck, drainage improvements, wayfinding improvements and installation of steel angles in locations of broken double-tee connections.  

Upon completion of the garage rehabilitation, we reviewed the garage on an annual basis to provide recommendations for repairs and construction phase services. The annual approach was intended to extend the service life of the garage and prevent the need for a large future rehabilitation project.
