Drone Demonstration for Aircraft Accident Investigation
Massachusetts
Project Summary
The MassDOT Aeronautics Division reached out to select members of the drone community soliciting participation in a Drone Demonstration research project to display drone capabilities to support MassDOT and MBTA missions. Hoyle Tanner was chosen to demonstrate capabilities for accident investigation and airport inspection services. Objectives for this demonstration were to conduct a cost-benefit analysis and compare drone methods vs. traditional non-drone methods for accident investigation and airport inspection services. Being one of a few drone experts and participating in one of six different drone demonstrations, Hoyle Tanner was able to assist MassDOT in analyzing drone applications and identifying what works well and what presents challenges. The results of this research project are being used by MassDOT as they move forward with their in-house Drone Program.
