Meet Audrey Wagner – Bridge Intern & Division-One Yapper
What drew you to Hoyle Tanner?
I was looking for a company that was close to UNH for a summer internship that could potentially lead into working during my senior year. After having my interview, I quickly learned how friendly everyone in the company was and wanted to explore my interest in structural bridge design and refurbishment.
What’s something invaluable you’ve learned here?
With my internship here this summer, I have learned that it is okay to ask for help when needed. As someone who has not even graduated from college yet, I thought it was going to be more intimidating than it has been to ask for help, but I have been reminded that everyone started where I am.
What’s the best thing that’s happened to you recently (this week, this month, this year)?
I studied abroad in Scotland this past semester through an exchange program with UNH.
How many different states have you lived in?
As a diehard New Englander, I was born in Massachusetts and now split my time there with New Hampshire.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?
It would have to be lemon pepper salmon with rice and either seasoned and roasted sweet potatoes or broccoli.
What kind of pet do you have & how did you choose to name it?
I have two dogs, a pure bred german sheppard and the other a rescue mutt that is mainly german sheppard. The pure bred, Tyson, was named by my brother. The other one, Bruder, was named this because it is German for “brother,” as he is now Tyson’s brother.
What is a fun or interesting fact about your hometown?
It has been illegal to pump your own gas in Weymouth, MA since 1977.
What are three things still left on your bucket list?
My bucket list grows every day, but three things would be…
- Visit all of the national parks in the United States
- Design and build my own house
- Go island hopping in Greece
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I grew up classically trained in Ballet and Pointe, so I always figured I would end up dancing professionally. I also had a creative side outside of dance that wanted to be an interior designer, but I quickly discovered that I actually just like scale-modeling rooms.
What’s one of your most ridiculous/nonsensical fears?
My most ridiculous fear is falling and having my two front teeth get stuck in the ground/concrete, while remaining attached to my head…which makes absolutely no sense logically, but pops into my head every time I stumble.
