Noah Colon – Airport Engineer & Die Hard Boston Sports Fanatic
1.What drew you to Hoyle Tanner?
What drew me first was the Kindness of the people I spoke to during the interview process. I instantly knew this was a place where I can be comfortable and begin my career as well. Second was the fact that Hoyle Tanner is a multidisciplinary company which makes me feel like I’m part of something big.=
2. What’s the coolest thing you are working on & why?
The coolest thing I will be working on here is a $50 million dollar project for the Presque Isle International Airport. It was an ex-air force base and is planning huge renovations, and I’m very excited to be part of something this important. It’ll be an amazing opportunity to learn more about my discipline and see parts of Maine I’ve never seen before.
3. What’s your favorite part of the company culture?
Definitely the camaraderie and the fact that we do company-wide outings to meet and speak to those you may not get to on a daily basis. Also the small department outings which I feel are important to build a strong connection with your peers you do work with on a daily basis.
4. What’s a lesson you’ve learned from a colleague?
Don’t feel afraid to ask anyone for help on something even if that person you ask is not someone in your department.
5. What’s one thing you wish people knew about your job?
I wish people knew what really goes on behind the scenes before a project starts. It’s a lot more than [simply] engineers designing something and then a contractor building it.
6. What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I wanted to be either an FBI agent or some sort of scientist in a lab.
7. How do you like to unwind after a busy day at work?
You can pretty much always find me at the gym with my buddies hitting a lift.
8. What are the top 3 emojis you use the most?
Top three has to be the laughing emoji, fire emoji, and champagne bottle.
9. What’s the best thing that’s happened to you recently (this week, this month, this year)?
My aunt just had her second child – a boy – which is nice because there’s a lot more girls than guys in my family.
10. What’s a cause or organization you’re passionate about and why?
I’m really supportive of any organization helping children with cancer. It is really terrible that a child has to deal with such illness and miss out on crucial experiences that children should experience in life.
11. What’s your go-to lunch or lunch spot?
My go to lunch spot would have to be five guys.
12. What’s your pump-up playlist or song lately?
Nothing specific, but I have been listening to some older R&B music lately.
13. What’s a hobby you have outside of work?
My hobby is definitely cars. Working on them or just watching anything car-related on YouTube.
14. Words to live by? Favorite quote? Why?
Words to live by would definitely be get comfortable being uncomfortable. I love this quote because I feel people often back down from a challenge or from something difficult, even though they’re missing out on discovering something they never knew they had in them.
