Meet Michael Dyer – Airport Engineer & Disc Golf Hobbyist

What drew you to Hoyle Tanner?

I was fortunate enough to learn about Hoyle Tanner through the University of New Hampshire’s career fair. This opportunity allowed me to meet a few of the great people that work here, and gave me insight into the many disciplines and different areas of civil engineering that Hoyle Tanner covers. The great people, and great work that Hoyle Tanner does are what really drew me to the company.

What’s the coolest thing you are working on & why?

While I find each individual project cool in its own way, the project I currently find the coolest is the Tweed-New Haven project that we are currently working on. This is a very large project that contains many different aspects of airport engineering as well as a lot of permitting challenges that make the project feel very rewarding to work on.

What’s your favorite part of the company culture?

My favorite part of the company culture is the willingness to help out fellow coworkers. In the time that I’ve worked for the company there have been so many times when I come across something that I need help with, and I can always find someone to assist me with what I’m working on. My colleagues at Hoyle Tanner are eager to help one another become the best they can be.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

When I was growing up, I always thought I wanted to be an engineer. The idea of finding, and solving problems has always appealed to me, however it wasn’t until college that I figured out exactly what kind of engineer I wanted to be. After trying classes within different engineering fields, I resonated the most with civil engineering. On the surface it just made the most sense to me, but on a deeper level I really loved the positive impact that a civil engineer has on the community around them.

How do you like to unwind after a busy day at work?

After a busy day at work, I like to unwind by going to the gym, hanging out with my girlfriend, and watching TV.

What’s a hobby you have outside of work?

One of my favorite hobbies outside of work is playing disc golf.
