Tully Road Bridge over Tully Brook (NHDOT 155/066)
Project Summary
The previous Tully Brook Road Bridge, constructed in 1990, was load posted for six tons and consisted of a corrugated metal plate (CMP) arch with a 14’-0” span. The Town of Richmond needed to replace the bridge due to its deteriorated condition and to increase the live load carrying capacity.
The project consists of a bridge replacement with a 49’ long steel stringer bridge and cast-in-place concrete deck founded on cast-in-place concrete cantilever abutments and concrete footings. The project also includes the reconstruction and realignment of approximately 420’ of roadway, the construction of an on-site temporary traffic diversion road and bridge, and incidental work.
After completion of the design by another consultant, Hoyle Tanner provided construction observation and administration. A challenging aspect of the project was the differing subsurface conditions and construction of a cast-in-place concrete subfooting adjacent to the temporary bridge while removing part of the temporary cofferdams. Additional services during construction-phase included coordination of aerial utility relocation and obtaining additional easements to construct the project.
This project is partially funded through the NHDOT Municipally-Managed State Bridge Aid Program.
