Matthew J. Low, PE, Senior Vice President of Hoyle, Tanner & Associates, Inc., has been selected by a jury of his peers from New Hampshire’s engineering societies as the 2019 New Hampshire Engineer of the Year. Matt is a New Hampshire native and lifelong resident, and graduated with his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire in 1992 and is a licensed Professional Engineer in six states (NH, ME, MA, VT, PA, FL).
Matt has been with Hoyle, Tanner & Associates, Inc., serving in increasing levels of responsibility, since 1999. As a shareholder, member of the Board of Directors, Senior Vice President and the Director of Engineering Operations, Matt is responsible for the firm’s financial performance, strategic growth, client interaction, standard development, employee retention and attraction, business development and interaction between all technical groups and executive support. His guidance, vision, and understanding of the engineering business has and will continue to make the firm one of the best in the industry.
His technical expertise has centered around simple to complex bridge designs, inspections, and ratings as well as the management of larger multi-disciplined transportation solutions involving expertise in roadway, environmental, geotechnical, hydraulic, public relations and historic/cultural resources. Throughout his 27-year career, he has not only served as an exceptional engineer but also a trusted advisor, dedicated colleague, and all around great person.
Matt has demonstrated his commitment and dedication to the engineering profession through his years of service to numerous committees and boards of professional associations. He is a current member of the Manchester Connects Steering Committee, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Infrastructure Committee, and a Past-President of the Structural Engineers of New Hampshire (SENH) and the New Hampshire Society of Professional Engineers (NHSPE). He has accomplished what many aspire to – both professionally and within his community.
In addition to his service to the industry, Matt has also held community leadership positions including serving on several advisory, educational and youth sports boards, such as the UNH Civil Engineering Advisory Board. He is also a founding member of Jen’s Friends, a non-profit, started nearly 20 years ago and has raised over $3M for cancer patients.
Matt resides in and is an active Manchester community member with his wife Kimberly and two grown children, Ian and Aislinn. He has previously been honored as the New Hampshire Young Engineer of the Year in 2002 and as a member of the 2006 “40 under Forty” class by the New Hampshire Union Leader and Business and Industry Association (BIA).
Being named Engineer of the Year is one of the highest awards given to individuals by the New Hampshire Engineering Societies recognizing the outstanding contributions to the engineering profession, the public welfare, and humankind. This distinguished award will be presented on February 19th at the 68th Annual Engineer’s Week Banquet at Grappone Conference Center in Concord, New Hampshire.
