US Route 3/Route 28 – Widening & Reconstruction

Hooksett, NH

Project Summary

The NHDOT/FHWA funded CMAQ Program project widened and realigned US Route 3-28 in Hooksett and the NH Route 28 Bypass. Improvements along the roadway from Martin’s Ferry intersection through the Route 28 Bypass intersection to and including the Wal-Mart intersection relieved a regional traffic “bottleneck” for commuters and shoppers by proposing new coordinated signal systems at four intersections. Signal system optimization dictated the addition of operational lanes and thru lanes all along the corridor.  Associated aspects of the design included water quality improvements, traffic planning and capacity analysis, signal design, new intersection layouts, roadway design, urban drainage system retrofits and improvements, utility conflict identification, resolution and relocations, temporary traffic management, retaining walls and ancillary structures design, and public hearing presentations. Hoyle Tanner provided multi-disciplined engineering, management, permitting, public outreach, Right-of-Way support and construction documents preparation services with a team of for roadway, traffic, structures, utilities and environmental permitting professionals.
